Barcelona

This summer, getting pretty tired of constant rain, me and Andy decided to head to the lovely city of Barcelona. We’d borrowed a pad in the Poble Sec area, just east of the city centre, from Jess who is a good friend of ours through Rachel. It was situated on this little square, where the elderly locals sit on benches most part of the day amongst little tapas bars, very quaint. The flat was a two bedroom flat so we had lots of space and I loved having a kitchen as we planned to take advantage of nice local produce and prepare our own food. The little food market just of the Ramblas is a little gem and the first night we bought a whole kilo of prawns to take back to the flat. They tasted mighty fine with white wine and bread. Well we didn’t just eat, we also decided to do a bit of touristy stuff and on the first day we traveled around on the open top buses and saw most of the city – highlight that day was without a doubt the Segrada Familia. What an amazing building. We went to the top with a lift and then hiked down the narrow stairs, we absolutely loved it.
Next day we spent mainly on cable cars and experienced the city from above. We also spent some time in the Old town, so charming with its little narrow streets and little shops. For dinner we decided to have meat, yes proper meat, rib eye steak and its great cause in Spain it’s dead cheap and we loved it so much we had it again the next day.
On the Wednesday we headed up to Figueras by train to visit the Dali museum. Like people who have been know it’s hard to explain, an amazing place with its wacky artwork and surreal sculptures. Dali definitely had humor and sarcasm in his work, a very funny combination.
What did we do on the Thursday again? Oh yes we went up to Park Guell, created by the famous Gaudi, the same who was the mastermind behind Segrada Familia. Very futuristic architecture and quite unbelievable it was all built in the early 20th century, so different from anything else. We took a picnic and had a lovely afternoon reading and relaxing in the park. That night we went back to the market and picked up some langoustines, probably from Iceland, they were niceJ
On the Friday and Saturday we just chilled at the flat and around Poble Sec, found this great little Jazz Bar literally next door and had a few there, also had the nicest tapas in the little restaurant underneath the flat.

All in all a great holiday and even though I’d been before I’d go again…loved it!
